Closing out November!
My son celebrated his birthday in his typical style: catered food truck, select friends and family, games, movies and a bonfire.
My church held its annual Friendsgiving Dinner a week before the big day and I took photographs or at least I thought I took photographs. While the results are unusable, I learned something about my new camera. There's always a lesson to be learned in every situation. Later that week, I put together craft kits for the special needs ministry at church.
Masterpiece is a themed monthly program for the special needs community in our town and surrounding towns. This month was "Stuffed with Thanks." The kids always have a great time. We figured the crowd might be smaller because of the upcoming holiday and attendance always fluctuates due to what our friends have to deal with in their lives on a daily basis. We're always grateful for the folks who come out.
Our Thanksgiving was relaxed and pretty quiet. Everyone was exhausted this year. Literally, we were all falling asleep on couches after dinner and there was no turkey on the menu. For the second year we went with Mexican food and everyone brought a different dish.
My sleep schedule was all messed up and the boys all said they were having sleep issues. We talked about the holiday as a family and have decided to either skip Thanksgiving altogether or move it to the weekend before. Thankfulness should occur throughout the year. It should be part of our daily routine. Also, Thanksgiving is celebrated on a Thursday. With the exception of me and my daughter-in-law, everyone has to get up and work the day after. With that in mind I offered to move the family Christmas celebration from Wednesday the 25th, to Saturday, the 28th. Our youngest son has to work on Sunday but he said he was fine with it since he lives at home. Growing up, we celebrated family Christmas on New Year's Day once my older siblings got married and started having kids.
A good November overall. Everyone is healthy, happy and employed even if grocery shopping makes us all groan thanks to the rising prices. Time to welcome December and whatever the Lord lays out for me. And maybe I'll even find time to blog ... regularly. Don't hold your breath.
