It’s sad when a month flies by but getting a new, free book from Amazon First Reads each month makes it better!
Let’s get right into the selections shall we? I’m trying a new layout this month by adding a very small part of the description from each of their Amazon pages.

Bonus Short Read
Thriller

Within hours, his world unravels. His debit card is declined. His car is towed away. His office locks him out. The police treat him like a criminal. According to every system, every database, every official record—John Grebble is no more.

In 1941, Violet Rookwood and her mother flee war-torn London for a Cornwall farm owned by their family. There, under the floorboards of her bedroom, Violet finds a journal written by a Catholic woman more than three hundred years ago, confessing to a forbidden love. In 1606, on this very farm, Maria Wolveden sheltered Jago Carlyon, a fugitive priest sought for treason. In a time when all Catholics were suspect, Maria’s protective love for Jago grew stronger, as did the mortal dangers of harboring a wanted man.

She worries she won’t be around to support her younger daughter Astra, who’s still in college, but even Thea cannot foresee what is to come—a terrible accident the night of the wedding that changes Astra’s life forever.

Historical Fantasy
For Asphodel, the free-spirited daughter of Hades and Persephone, being cursed to never fall in love with a god is a blessing.
Determined not to be trapped in a union like her mother, Del spends her life blissfully on the Isle of Flowers, far from her family in the underworld. But when Del’s parents ordain her marriage to Thanatos, the god of death, the freedom she’s long since guarded is at risk of being stolen for eternity. So Del takes fate into her own hands: She kidnaps her groom-to-be and traps him on her Isle.

Romantic Comedy

Legal Thriller
Everyone knows who Olivia Taylor is. Or so they believe.
She’s the glamorous philanthropist who just returned to her hometown after a long absence. She’s the new fiancée of the wealthy and charismatic Winston Donovan. She’s Las Vegas royalty, celebrated by the media and pursued by paparazzi at every turn.

Cozy Mystery
Oxford biographer Lyssa Moore is delighted to be commissioned to write about Amelia ‘Monty’ Montrose, the 1960s music icon who died mysteriously at her birthday party in 1966. But as Lyssa delves into Monty’s past, she discovers the wild child portrayed by the press was hiding far more than anyone knew.
Psychological Thriller
In a forgotten corner of small-town Indiana, Adrianna McMahon serves up nuts and fudge at the mall while hiding from her dark past. When her seventeen-year-old coworker, Rebel James, drops off a bloodstained notebook full of stories about missing girls, Adrianna recognizes a haunting pattern—one leading straight to New Day High School, where her own nightmare began decades ago.
This month I’m having a hard time choosing because both of my favorite genres are available: Cozy Mystery and Historical Fiction but When She Was Ours looks interesting too!
Having too many books to choose from isn’t a problem for a book connoisseur like myself. This month I’m definitely waiting a few weeks before selecting my free book. My reading is a bit slower since warmer weather arrived.
Finishing the two books I selected last month is the priority. Then I can post my thoughts on each here on the blog.
Amazon First Reads free book each month is one of the perks for having a Prime subscription. I know not everyone can afford it, but if you have Prime, check out your free books each month. Also, if you’re a Prime subscriber, you’re not limited to this monthly offering. You also have Prime Reading which allows you to borrow up to 10 books, magazines, comics, or Kindle singles. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the books offered and enjoyed many of them. I’m always looking for free books to add to my Kindle Library.
Since both hubby and I are avid readers our house would be consumed with book shelves if we purchased everything we wanted to read. We decided way back when we got our first e-readers that we’d stick to digital copies and purchase the books we know we’ll re-read each year from our favorite authors. It’s hard, because I’m drawn to SO many books and would have color coordinated shelves throughout the house if I could.
Now that I’ve shared the book list for the month, I’m off to read. It’s currently 103° but the “feels like” temperature is 113°. Today is a day built for sitting in front of a fan, sipping iced tea and reading a book. The whole country is experiencing high temps so please stay cool and hydrated.
Happy reading!
B
