It’s June! I’m actually excited to start a new month. Usually I lament about how quickly the year is passing but I’m thrilled to be past May’s illness and feeling much more like myself.
Making plans for the month is always futile because God seems to steer life in new directions or have me revisit something again. So far I’m stoked because of the people I’ll get to spend time with this month.
My oldest grandson is graduating from 8th grade. I used to poo-poo these celebrations because the retail world wants us to celebrate a.k.a. buy more stuff for every little thing. But this is a big deal for our family.
My grandson is on the spectrum so life with L has been a learning experience for him, his parents and the entire family. He’s an amazing young man so full of joy and love for everything. He makes us laugh and he also keeps getting taller each year.
He towers over me, which isn’t hard since I’m a shorty. At 15, he’s already 5’10” and still growing like a redwood tree. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was well over 6 ft. tall by the time he graduates high school. Speaking of high school graduations, my Grand-Niece Devon graduates this year as well as a dear friend’s daughter. I’ll be busy this month with parties that’s for sure.
I’m hoping to purchase some flowering shrubs for our backyard as well as get the planting boxes built and situated for a hefty vegetable and pollinator garden next year. We grew tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash and zucchini a few years ago, but then life got in the way of gardening these past few years. I’m determined to get back into puttering around the garden phase and be able to put up veggies and can sauces next year. While we don’t have a homestead situation, we have the area to grow food for ourselves. We’re also lucky to live in a small town, considered to be a sparse suburban area within a rural county. Life is quiet here and there are quite a few farmstands nearby where we can purchase what we can’t grow.
Planning the layout and building the raised beds this year allows us to go straight to the growing next year.
The weather is wonderful right now. It’s supposed to get warmer later this week, but today it’s in the 70s with low humidity and sunshine to spare! The birds are serenading me as I write and I never grow tired of listening to them. They’re most likely complaining that I haven’t made it to Tractor Supply to pick up more sunflower seeds! So on that note, I’ll end today’s moment of musing and head outside for a bit before I start rolling out homemade dumplings for dinner tonight.
Peace,
B
