Why I'm Thankful for the Pause Button

This series was taught during the adult Sunday School class at church before I started attending. Somehow though, the Lord placed it in front of me through their YouTube channel, and I'm slowly making my way through it. At the halfway point I can tell you that it's been deep, even gritty at times, but in the best way. It's the kind of teaching that settles in and lingers. To quote my grandfather, "It sticks to the bones."

I keep coming back to how thankful I am that it's available online. If it weren't, I'd have missed out on this amazing teaching. Maybe that's a gift, the ability to slow down. I've always been one to take notes, and often I miss things because I'm so busy writing. With this series I can hit pause, sit with a thought a little longer, open my Bible, and let the Word speak for Itself. There's been a sweetness in not rushing. I'm able to read, reflect, and linger awhile. It feels less like simply listening to a lesson and more like quietly abiding in it.

On Sunday mornings, I apply the same idea choosing to be present and listening to the message without worrying about taking notes. Then on Monday, I listen to the replay of the service, pause, dig into the Word and linger in it so that it takes root. It's been great. The women's Bible study at my previous church started doing this prior to my departure. Monday study would be about Sunday morning's message.

It's good to pause and abide.

Peace, B
